Macedonia is considered one of the most exotic and clean countries in Europe and its citizens strive to preserve its nature in its virgin, pristine state. The clearest lakes, national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty attract foreign tourists wishing to have a rest, replenish vital force and recover, at the same time basking in calm and quiet.Prices for recreation and recovery in Macedonia are considerably lower compared to other European countries, but the resort infrastructure is on the stage of development as yet. Macedonia mostly receives citizens from Western Europe and the CIS countries coming for recovery and rehabilitation.
Major mountain-climatic resorts of the country, where tourists come for recovery, replenishing vital force, and rehabilitation after traumas and surgeries, are located in the picturesque national parks Pelister, Galičica and Mavrovo, in Krushevo, Bitola, Struga, Prilep, Popova Šapka (Popova Shapka).
Lake Ohrid (Ohridsko Ezer) is the pride of Macedonia. It is one of the most ancient lakes in the world and the clearest lake in Europe. May to October, visitors are welcomed in health centres, camping sites, and hotels situated along its shore amidst the scenic mountains.
Most Macedonian resorts offer their visitors a possibility to attend steam, Turkish, and roman baths, Finnish sauna, to take recovery and relaxation procedures, thalassotherapy, stone therapy, various face and body care programmes, and spa procedures. Various types of massage (classical, sports, Spanish, anti-cellulite, lymphatic drainage), water procedures (Sharko douche or shower, circular and hydro massage, galvanic baths, underwater stretching, aroma baths, pearl baths with colour therapy, dry carbon dioxide baths) also enjoy great demand here.
